EVE SHOULD HELP EVE

Image
By: Edith Jeff-Okoroafor She may not have been on par with you, but definitely looked up to you. She sought to learn the ropes from you. Through humble and almost unknown beginnings, she strove to be where she currently is, just like you if you care to remember. She tried time and again to connect with you but you acted coldly towards her. Yet, she kept on trying, “ I’ve got something to learn from her”, she thought to herself and kept chasing you about for a meeting, a decent phone conversation – anything at all that would result in communicating seriously with you. The messages she left you, you snubbed. That is, if you bothered reading them at all, but smiled gleefully at an ordinary missed call notification from a man. Still, she didn’t relent since she had long held up before her, in place of your face, an image of the woman she would like to be someday – a mirror to her future. In spite of how you treated her, she never put down that image. Her resolve to succeed thankfully was ...

NGO BILL WON'T AFFECT CHURCHES, MOSQUES........MUST BE PASEED

Image
The House of Representatives has vowed to go ahead with the Bill seeking to regulate the activities of Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society Organizations. The House made its position known in a statement by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Umar Buba Jibril, on Thursday. Jibril said in a statement that not even the United Nations, to which some of the NGOs and CSOs have appealed to, can prevail on the National Assembly to stop the process for the passage of the Bill. He said: “Going on cheap propaganda and blackmail and even calling on World bodies including the United Nations to help you withdraw a bill from our National Assembly will not help you!” Jibril, however, in the statement, said churches, mosques and thrift societies are not going to be affected by the Bill. The statement by Jibril is reproduced below: House clears the air on NGO regulation Bill …Some NGOs collected funds for North East IDPs and disappeared …Churches, Mosques, Esusu,...

UTME Score No Guarantee For Candidates’ Admission – JAMB REGISTRAR

Image
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says only a combination of JAMB cut-off marks, post-UTME, O’ level results and other admission criteria as determined by institutions can ensure candidates’ admission. Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, disclosed this at an intensive Training and Sensitisation Forum on Central Admissions Processing System for the 2017/2018 academic session on Thursday in Abuja. Oloyede said scoring higher than the minimum cut-off marks did not guarantee admission but made candidates eligible for admission consideration. He added that institutions determined the institutional, programme and course cut-off marks and other admission criteria in exercise of their autonomy. According to him, the cut-off mark by JAMB is only a threshold below which no institution can admit candidates. Oloyede said: “JAMB is not an examination body rather it is a ranking body. If there are enough spaces in the tertiary institutions there may not be need...

IS BETTING/GAMBLING A SIN?

Image
BY EMMANUEL ONYEKWERE The Bible does not specifically condemn gambling, betting, or the lottery . The Bible does warn us, however, to stay away from the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5). Scripture also encourages us to stay away from attempts to “get rich quick” (Proverbs 13:11; 23:5; Ecclesiastes 5:10). Gambling most definitely is focused on the love of money and undeniably tempts people with the promise of quick and easy riches. Betting is the action of gambling money on the outcome of a race, game, or other unpredictable event. It also refers to the risking a sum of money or valued item against someone else's on the basis of the outcome of an unpredictable event such as a race or game. Lately many have engaged into all sorts of modern gambling especially sports bet which had replaced the existing ones like pool and others, many genuine Christian who have intention of engaging but are asking questions as to whether it's against the Christian precepts I'm al...
