UniAbuja Lecturers Embark On Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) University of Abuja Chapter has embarked on an indefinite strike to press home some  demands which it said has been militating against the smooth running of the university
It was gathered that the chairman of the ASUU branch, Mr Ben Ugheoke said ”we have shut down and stop rendering services until our demands are addressed.”
The demands he said include the release and implementation of a white paper on an earlier constituted visitation panel by the Federal Government on July 16, 2012 to resolved issues affecting the institution but the white paper of the report had yet to be released.
“We want the visitation panel white paper  released and be implemented accordingly by concern authority,” he said
Others are, the non remittance of deductions check off their dues which he said its a violation of Trade union acts and other levies that are yet to be remitted to the union accounts since May last year saying that ‘ never remitted to the union’s account or the TUC account.
”Our promotion arrears since 2010 have been hanging in the balance, no one can say what’s happening as all efforts has fall on deaf ears, we equally demand promotion into professorial cadre be done according to stipulated rules and regulations,” he said.
The union also wants the university council to constitute a ‘right and correct’ budget and monitoring committee that will supervise expenditures of the university so that it can be done in line with laid down rules and regulations.
