A RIGHT HONOURABLE GENTLEMAN.

I
n 1963, a British photojournalist came to Lagos, Nigeria to seek an interview with Prime Minister Alhaji (Sir) Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. But he was told he had gone on vacation for his annual leave as Prime Minister of Nigeria.

"To which country?" he asked.

"His village in Bauchi," he was told, "he went by train," he was told further.
The photojournalist was shocked to hear it and he went to Bauchi.

On getting to his village, there was no evidence to show that an important personality was there. Everybody was busy with their chores.

He then met a farmer (with his donkey carrying bundles of sugarcane) and asked for the Prime Minister and he was shocked when the farmer said he had just left him a while ago.

"You will see him sitting on the bare floor with his kids eating the sugarcane I gave them."

He met them like that and took this photograph.
